KIMOOWUN BEADS
Contemporary Métis Beadwork
Tansi / Hello,
My name is Shawn. I am a Two-Spirited beadwork artist and fur tufter of Métis (Cree - Saulteaux) and mixed-settler heritage. I am also a new mother and I love nothing more than raising my Son. These days I only have time to create when he is sleeping.
Kimoowun Beads has been a rerooting practice. From coming back to my Métis heritage and teachings, to making a promise to commit to learning the Michif language. My beadwork practice has been a healing journey as well as a way to channel creative energy. To me, beadwork is a lifeline to Michif heritage and to my Ancestors.
I raise my hands to my teachers, my Ma and Aunties, Lisa Shepherd, and Adele Arseneau.
In Michif, "kimoowun" translates to "rain". I acknowledge that I currently reside, create and thrive on the gorgeous, ever rainy, unceded ancestral lands of the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tseileil-Waututh people - also known as Vancouver, BC.
Maarsii for visiting
